Ankur Patel Announces Campaign for California State Superintendent of Public Instruction: A Vision for Transforming Education

(Los Angeles, CA) – Ankur Patel launched his independent campaign for California State Superintendent of Public Instruction with a focus on education, not politics. Drawing from decades of experience in education at every level, from the K-12 classroom to university administration, domestic and international - Mr. Patel is determined to build bridges from the outdated systems currently in place to the needs of 21st-century students. 

“California once led the world in education, but today, we see clear opportunities and need for improvement. I am running for Superintendent to transform our education system from kindergarten through university and ensure that we deliver on the promise of California,” Patel said. “It’s time to turn the page from the 19th-century model we’ve inherited and create a system that empowers students with the tools, values, and understanding needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.”

With hands-on experience in the classroom with students of all ages, as school and community coordinator, and director at Hindu University of America, Patel brings a unique and holistic perspective to the table. He understands the challenges facing public schools, the competition from private education, and the growing trend of homeschooling. Patel is committed to fostering innovation and creativity in education, advocating for programs that make learning relevant for our students by connecting them to the real-world challenges. From after-school clubs, financial literacy, to community-based field trips, Patel has championed initiatives that connect students to their neighborhoods and inspire a lifelong love of learning.

Patel acknowledges the complexities of the Superintendent’s role, which involves operational leadership of the California Department of Education but limited direct power over budgets, policies, and laws. However, he sees this position as a powerful platform to influence education policy and unite stakeholders around a shared vision for improvement. "This campaign is about bringing together students, parents, teachers, and policymakers to build a future where California’s public schools are once again the best in the world,” Patel said. “Our campaign is a vehicle to educate and engage Californians in the collective project of public education.”

He emphasizes the need for serious investment in underserved communities, while acknowledging parents who choose charter schools, private education, and homeschooling.
